Obituary for John C. Beagle, Jr.

John C. Beagle, Jr., 96, of Berea died Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. He was a Toronto, Canada native born September 6, 1920, son of the late John Beagle, Sr., and Ellen Palmeri Beagle, U.S. Navy veteran, and retired heavy equipment operator and repairman. Before moving to Berea in 1994, John was very active in many organizations in Keeseville, NY including Keeseville Elks, Keeseville American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and had served as Clinton County Legion Chaplain. He also served as the Berea Legion Chaplain after moving here.

He was the recipient of numerous awards for his community service including, 1980, 1989, 2011 Legionnaire of the Year, Clinton County American Legion Auxiliary Award for Disabled and Sick Veterans, DeWitt Clinton Masonic Award for Community Service, Keeseville Elk's Lodge Golden Antler Award for Outstanding Service, New York State Elk's Association VAVS Award (service to hospitalized veterans), Certificate of Appreciation from New York State Elk's Association National Veterans Service Committee, First Place Award for Veteran's Remembrance Report, Thomas J. Fallon Senior Citizen Mule Skinner's Award (for dedicated service to veterans of foreign wars), and Outstanding Service Award (from the VFW for sick veterans in the hospital). John received many Certificates of Appreciation including certificates for Keeseville Field Day, Clinton County Legislature, Clinton County Bicentennial Parade, American Legion Post 50, and was honored as 1981 Keeseville Citizen of the year, and John Beagle Appreciation day for Keeseville July 17, 1994. He was honored by President Bill Clinton and the Keeseville Elk's Club for community service and by the Shiner's Hospital for Crippled Children 100 million Dollar Club.

Survivors include his daughter, Martha Beagle; 1 brother, Richard Beagle; sister-in-law, Deannie Beagle; niece, Cindy McKee Miller and husband, Dave; niece, Cathy Beagle Page and husband, Bryan; and three other nieces. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary McKee Beagle.

Memorial Service for John and Mary Beagle with Military Honors 10:00 am, Monday, May 15, 2017 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery at Nicholasville, KY with Chaplain Loretta Reynolds officiating.
