Obituary for Grace Bain

Gracealee "Grace" Bain, 87, died Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Grace was born January 20, 1930 in Ottawa, Kansas to the late Arch E. Gentry and Dorcas Bendorf Gentry. At the age of 6 years her family moved to Wichita where she successfully completed her education. She graduated from Wichita High School East in 1947. She continued her education at Wichita State University (Class of 1951), then began her teaching career with the Wichita Public School System. Grace was baptized as a young adult in the Christian Faith. She was united in marriage to William E. Bain in 1950 and this union was blessed with 3 children; Betsy Lamb, LTC Casey Bain (retired), and Katy Bain.
With the advent of parenthood, she transferred her dedication to children by owning and operating 3 different pre-schools in Topeka, Kansas, Chillicothe, Ohio and finally in Richmond, Kentucky. She was an avid reader and could always be seen with a book in her hands during her leisure time.
Grace was an enthusiastic and loyal sports fan of the Washington Redskins football team and University of Kentucky basketball team. She had exciting memories of attending several Super Bowl games with her son Casey. She also enjoyed several awesome cruises with her son and family. Time spent with daughters, Betsy, Katy, Ginger and Misty was very meaningful and rewarding to her.
Survivors include 3 children, Casey Bain (Misti); Betsy Lamb (Ed Abbott) and Katy Bain (Ginger Marx); 4 much loved grandsons, Billy, Adler, Major and Jacob Bain; granddaughter, Amanda Pence; great-granddaughter, Gracie Rogers. Grace always felt privileged and very honored to have Gracie share her name. Thank you Amanda.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 38 years, William E. Bain; 2 siblings, Delmont Gentry, Joan Haas; son-in-law, Jerry Lamb; and a very dear grandson, Jeremy Lamb.
Family was a true blessing to her and she often voiced how thankful she was to have all her children to love and to be loved by them. She leaves many friends in her extended family, Amanda and Carl Smith and their girls, Carlie, Kaycie, and Kayla; Tracy Cruise, Wilma Clemmons, Katherine Murphy, and all whose lives she touched during her lifetime.
She cherished the opportunity to spend her last working years at the Madison County Health Department where she sensed a fulfillment in the work she did with the Hands Program, benefiting the lives of many babies. Grace considered all the employees at the health department her special family with much appreciation to be given to LeRoy Lamb and Georgia Samples. Grace will also be leaving her loyal and loving companion for many years, her beloved dog Bandit.
